Sending e-mails
If you are having trouble sending e-mails, please take a look at some of the possible solutions below.
Error 550
This error is normally caused by one of the following:
- 1. Sending from an non Tesco.net e-mail address whilst connected via your Tesco internet access connection. Please ensure that you are sending from your Tesco.net e-mail address when connected to Tesco internet access.
- 2. Sending from your Tesco.net e-mail address whilst connected via a non Tesco internet access connection Please ensure that you are connected to Tesco internet access before sending from your Tesco.net e-mail address.
- 3. Sending from your Tesco.net e-mail address through a non Tesco internet access mail server Please check that you are using the correct mail server. To do this, please take the following steps:
1. Open Outlook Express
2. Click Tools followed by Accounts:

3. Double-click mail.tesco.net:

4. Click the Servers tab

5. Ensure that both the incoming and outgoing server names are mail.tesco.net:
6. Click OK followed by Close
Other sending errors
Most sending errors can be resolved by removing and re-adding account settings. Here’s how to do it:
1. Open Outlook Express
2. Click on 'Tools' followed by 'Accounts'

3. Click on the 'Mail' tab

4. Ensure that mail.tesco.net is highlighted by clicking it once and click ‘Remove’
5. Click 'Add' followed by 'Mail'

6. Enter your name as you would like it to appear on outgoing e-mail and click ‘Next’

7. Enter your Tesco.net e-mail address and click ‘Next’

8. Enter mail.tesco.net for both incoming and outgoing mail servers and click ‘Next’

9. Enter your Tesco internet access password and click ‘Next’

10. Click Finish

You will need the following information to add the account:
Username - Your Username
Incoming Mail server - POP3
POP server (incoming) - mail.tesco.net
SMTP server (outgoing) - mail.tesco.net
Password - Your Password
You may wish to select remember password, and please make sure that Log on using secure password authentication is NOT selected.

Receiving e-mails
If you are having trouble receiving e-mails, please take a look at some of the possible solutions below.
Mail blockages or timeouts
If Outlook Express 'times out' whilst downloading an e-mail you will see the following error:
"Your POP server has not responded within 60 seconds"
To resolve this problem, please take the following steps:
1. Open Outlook Express
2. Click Tools followed by Accounts:

2. Double-click mail.tesco.net:

3. Click the Advanced tab

4. Increase the server timeout to 5 mins:

5. Click OK

Saving attachments
If Outlook Express will not allow you to save or open attachments, please take the following steps:
1. Open Outlook Express
2. Click Tools
3. Click Options
4. Click the Security tab
5. Remove the tick from "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus"

6. Click Apply followed by OK

Adding new e-mail addresses
To add e-mail addresses to your account, please go to http://www.tesco.net
1. Click on 'My Account'
2. Log in using your e-mail address and password and click on sign in
3. Click on 'Your e-mail addresses'
4. You can add e-mail accounts to your account here
Once this is done, you need to add the accounts to Outlook Express using the guide below:
To add an e-mail account into Outlook Express:
1. Open Outlook Express
2. Click on 'Tools' followed by 'Accounts'

3. Click 'Add' followed by 'Mail'

4. Enter your name as you would like it to appear on outgoing e-mail and click ‘Next’

5. Enter your new Tesco.net e-mail address and click ‘Next’

6. Enter mail.tesco.net for both incoming and outgoing mail servers and click ‘Next’

7. Enter your Tesco internet access password and click ‘Next’

8. Click Finish

You will need the following information to add the account:
Username - Your Username
Incoming Mail server - POP3
POP server (incoming) - mail.tesco.net
SMTP server (outgoing) - mail.tesco.net
Password - Your Password
